Dear PHS Swim Parents,
I wanted to write and briefly introduce myself to the new parents and mention some of my thoughts on the upcoming season.
New Parents,
Welcome to the program! My name is Scott Johnson. I am a 1999 graduate of PHS and a former PHS swimmer. I had the privilege of swimming for Coach Cavanaugh while in high school, and joined him on the staff as an assistant in 2002. I swam collegiately at the University of Louisville and at IUPUI. In addition to coaching at PHS, I coached club swimming at Avon Community Swim Team for 4 years where I worked with children of all ages. I work for the Decatur Township Fire Department on the southwest side of Indianapolis. It is a great honor to retain the assistant coaching position even though I am absent every third day to tend to my firefighting duties. As you may learn by watching in the future, I absolutely love coaching high school swimming. Nothing gives me greater excitement than when one of your children has an amazing swim. I look forward to meeting all of you throughout the course of the season.
All Parents,
The new season is upon us. Coach Cavanaugh most likely mentioned some or all of the follow in the parent meeting, so forgive me if this sounds repetitive. I always get really excited this time of year. Every new season brings new athletes, new goals, new opportunities for the swimmers, divers and coaches to get better. My expectations are always high. If your child brings his/her best attitude to practice every day, there is no limit to how fast the can swim or how well they can dive by season's end. They will be pushed, sometimes further than they think they can go, but never beyond their capability. Have patience! Swimming is a peculiar sport. A teenager's body does not always work the way they or we want it to in the pool. The fast swimming may not come by the first swim meet, but it will come! I will give my best at practice. I am here to advise, instruct, cheer and most of all, motivate. It is going to be a great season, I have no doubts.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or concerns. I am very approachable and will be glad to discuss thing with you.
Sincerely,
Scott Johnson
